Into the Woods
First screened in December 2014
Director: Rob Marshall. Cast: Anna Kendrick, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, Chris Pine, Billy Magnussen, Johnny Depp, Mackenzie Mauzy, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, Tammy Blanchard, Lucy Punch, Simon Russell Beale, Frances de la Tour, Joanna Riding, Annette Crosbie, Richard Glover. Screenplay: James Lapine (based on the stage musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine).

Twitter Capsule: Perfectly amiable entertainment, even if Marshall's cookery is a bit blunt for Sondheim's soufflé. Very game cast.

VOR:   With musical transfers still so rare (especially of pieces as sophisticated as Into the Woods), it's hard to rate even lower. But the filmmaking is lumpy, the experience engaging but evanescent.
