Love, Simon
First screened in April 2018
Director: Greg Berlanti. Cast: Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Logan Miller, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Miles Heizer, Keiynan Lonsdale, Joey Pollari, Clark Moore, Tony Hale, Natasha Rothwell, Talitha Eliana Bateman, Drew Starkey, Mackenzie Lintz. Screenplay: Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker (based on the novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli).

Twitter Capsule: Sometimes quite touching! Sometimes about a suburban crown prince who really bungles the one test life throws at him.

Second Capsule: I was impressed with several of the supporting actors, especially Alexandra Shipp and Logan Miller. But the film is uneven across the board.

Third Capsule: The movie's relations to blackness are even more curious than its carefully market-tested visions of queerness. It's trying, but it's weird.

VOR:   You can take the filmmakers' point that building a conventional teen dramedy around a gay kid is nervy and new and also sense major room for growth.
