The Great Waltz
First screened in August 2008
Director: Julien Duvivier (with uncredited assists from Victor Fleming and Josef von Sternberg). Cast: Fernand Gravet, Miliza Korjus, Luise Rainer, Hugh Herbert, Lionel Atwill, Curt Bois, Leonid Kinskey, Herman Bing, Henry Hull, Christian Rub, Bert Roach, Greta Meyer, Alma Kruger, Minna Gombell. Screenplay: Samuel Hoffenstein and Walter Reisch (based on an original screen story by Gottfried Reinhardt).

Twitter Capsule: Strauss bio a time capsule of composer mania and of Luise Rainer's brief reign. Less elegant than Duvivier's best.

VOR:   Most robust musical passages and swooniest scenes of dance imply a mightier film that might have been. Interesting, too, as an authorial amalgam by credited and uncredited directors.
