Noir pastiche with no charge and no palpable inner life. Few of the actors seem engaged. Desultory direction.
I could raise this mark a little: it is interesting to see the hard-boiled genre revived, somewhat reimagined, somewhat exactly as it was. But Jesus, just rent The Long Goodbye.
